Mission Statement
Camps that provide a safe week of happy memories, building self worth and confidence, learning life skills, and creating hope for the future, for children who have experienced abuse.
Role and responsibilities
- Buddies are directly responsible to the Camp Director.
- Attend training as provided before attending camp each year.
- Construct a large, attractive name banner for camper prior to camp.
- Be able to effectively and appropriately build relationships with children, particularly the individual assigned camper.
- Able to encourage children in positive choice making.
- Familiar with the organisation policies and procedures relating to children/camp.
- Provide support and encouragement to assigned child, sticking closely to child at all times.
- Attend appropriate buddy meetings at camp.
- Provide a positive, encouraging role model to the children, and take part in all activities. Be the child’s number one cheer leader.
- Respect camp rules and responsibilities eg bed times.
- Complete a Staff Application Form and sign necessary documents confirming the buddy's familiarity with relevant policies, procedures and systems of the organisation.
- Avoid being alone with a child at any time. Always take at least one other adult.
- Complete a memory book for assigned child before 10pm Thursday at camp.
